The Wonky House Block Swap Ended March 1st. We had four groups of twelve and the houses were amazing. Here are the ones I made.

Here is what I received!!!

Our next swap is due May 1st, Wonky Trees. There is plenty of time for you to join. Click on the house on the left for details.

I decided to make 8 colored trees.

I also made one for myself. My nod to Dr. Seuss, who I just love!

BUT after seeing the Lorax last night (great movie) I soooo need to make some pink and purple trees!!

Hmmm, I wonder if I can draw them?

My quilters palette blocks were laid out.

I arranged them...

But, something was missing?

I knew it was not purple, because that is not a color I enjoy.

It was ORANGE!!

So, I made two orange blocks and now I like how it looks.

Next white Kona sashing.

I also felt guilty because the Civil War Binder kept staring at me, so I did make a few of those too.

I know, I picked easy ones! but hey, they all have to get done right?

A Few Things....

Just a few things to show you today.

Yes, I did a little shopping.

This is my new favorite fabric. Half Moon Modern.

You can get it here at Quilt Taffy.

Also, I am just a little obsessed with Kei Kerchief Girls! I check just about everyday and when I see them, I buy them.

I have some fun plans for this new baby! I will show you later.

Not sure about you but I seem to have trouble with light. Yes, I can never have enough! These darn old eyes of mine!!

For years, I used this type of light. It worked for me but it radiates a lot of heat.

Then I tried this light..

Kept hitting my head (how silly am I)

Now, (yes Elaine, I took your advice) I have this light. Bright, does not radiate heat, and I do not hit my head!! All good things.

Have you noticed less comments being left for your post. Google has changed it's Word Verification, to not one but two scrambled words. I will admit that on some of the blogs I visit I have tried up to three times to leave a comment. I cannot read the letters so hence I cannot leave a comment. Yes, You bet I am!!

Clover and Violet are having a new Stitch and Quilt Along.

I missed their first one and was so sad.

BUT...

I am not missing this one, no, I am not!

It is called The Garden Steps Stitch and Quilt Along. The block will be a variation of the courthouse steps block. I like the block that was chosen as the middle leaves a very nice spot to stitch.

Today's post was about gathering your supplies.

I will be making the lap size quilt. this will require 12 fat quarters
and a color for the middle.

Look at the sample block!! Oh My!!

I have chosen Kona White for my middle square.

Then I picked (all from my stash,yippee!) my fabrics.

I will be using red and aqua, with a touch of pink.

For the stitching they will be using Finca Perle Cotton size 8. Which you may recall I sold in my store. I adore this thread and just happen to have a few colors laying around the house! I have not chosen my colors yet, as I want to see the stitchery first.

I am so excited to be able to play along.

Pinned and Pink

I have been busy the last few days.

I have pinned (no, not pinterest) my Sparkle Quilt.

She is ready to be hand quilted.

You will not see her for a few months!

I also made three pink blocks for my quilter's palette quilt.

PINK

I was able to add more pink scraps to my vase!

Here are my quilters palette blocks.

A rainbow of color.

I plan on making a large block for the back. I am going to do a row of each color for one larger block.

Sashing, white Kona. I like cornerstones but with my eyes they NEVER match, so I will not be adding that part. I also need to decide if I want a border or want it to flow? What do you think?

Well, I am off to try to make a wonky tree for my swap. It is a paper pieced pattern that I drew.
We shall see!!

Well, I set out to accomplish quite a bit this week. However, yes, it is true, I did not get it all finished.

I discovered something I should have never found...

PINTEREST!!

Yes, I have been turned to the ~~dark~~ fun side!

BUT this is what I have accomplished.

Three blocks for my quilters palette quilt.

Flimsy...

I did finish my string quilt top. I was very lucky to notice a seam loose when I held it up to the light! I mean, there is nothing worse than having a quilt sandwiched and ready to quilt and discovering a missed seam!

Future plans...

(After I fix the corners that are making me crazy. Thought I could let it go, Noooo)

AND, oh yes, cutting the color I have been saving for last!

GREEN
Green went super fast!! I guess I did not have that much green in my stash, so cutting was a breeze.

Now, blue/aqua. This will take a while as I have a lot of this color.
I think I will make three of these blocks.

In the meantime I have pulled out a few UFOs.

My string quilt!

I would love to get this done for the summer. What a perfect quilt for the grandbabies to play on as we watch Maggie play softball.

I also took out my Civil War blocks.

I sooo need to work on these; at least once in a while!!

So, this is what the up-coming week has in store for me.

Well, I finished up my BLACK blocks for my quilters palette quilt.

I also made a pillowcase for Little T. As I was blog reading I commented on Robins blog about how cute I thought her dinosaur fabric was and if she knew the company who made the fabric. Lo and behold it arrived at my home!!

What Thursday means to me...

I know I have mentioned that I get the wonderful privilege of watching my grand- babies 3 mornings a week. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. I adore every minute (yes, even helping with potty training), but by noon I am tired! The thought of hitting the sewing machine, no way! So on those evenings I do my stitching.

I wake up Thursday, a little sad as I have no babies BUT I dive into sewing. I try to work from Thursday until Sunday!!

I think I would be called a long weekend sewer!

Today I start yellow,

Here is the pile I will iron and cut!

I am also trying to design a birdie block for November. I have loved every block that Little Miss Shabby designed. It was a wonderful Quilt-A-Long! I however,wanted to try my hand at a block. I used her February Birdies (minus the hearts and flowers) and added a cornucopia, I may add the tree from her September block as it was so pretty.

Do you have special days you sew?

Brown...

I started the Quilters Palette Quilt. I started with the color I had the least scraps. Ideally I would like to have 25 different prints but the first two colors I am using, well, hard to believe with the stash I have, but I am lacking in these colors. Brown and for some reason yellow.

When it comes to pink, I could make the whole quilt and never use the same print more than once!!

So, Let me introduce Mrs. Brown.......

Flimsy Done!

Now that my Wonky Houses are done I was able to move on to another project. I finished my flimsy of Sparkle Plenty. May I tell you Stephanie's pattern is wonderful. She makes it so easy not to make a mistake. I need to trim the sides then decide how I want to quilt it.

So, after a nice cup of hot cocoa in a beautiful pink china mug I looked at my patterns to decide what to start next.

We had a nice long weekend, filled with fun! The Chicagoland area has its first significant snowfall. Not bad for Chicago, the middle of January.

We live on a hill so all we have to do is open the front door and sled. Little T came over with his family and they and Pops (DH) and Maggie all sledded. Come on, someone had to stay in the house with Little M!!!

On Saturday we celebrated my FIL's !00 birthday, even though he passed at 95. It was wonderful to have the whole family together and share stories about Grampy. He would have loved it.

The rest of the weekend was devoted to laundry and Wonky Houses!

As you can see from my flickr stream it is filled with Wonky Houses so I will show you just a few.

The Wonky Houses are done, so now on to other projects.

Now that all my Christmas gifts are finished and in the hands of loved ones, I have had some time for stitching. Did I ever mention,(about a million times) that
I LOVE TV and Movies!!

So, at night snuggled under one of my quilts I stitch and watch!

Tonight Project Runway, and if you are a fan as I am, what is with all the changes!!

Yes, I have been sewing for me!

I have made progress on my Sparkle Party Quilt!

I love this so much!

I have been working on Wonky Houses! I love house quilts of any kind. But Wonky allows you so much freedom.

Colors should not match (really)

Pieces should no be symmetrical (really)

and they do not have to have matching seams!!

A quilters dream!

I drew patterns...

Tried so hard to make it into a paper piecing pattern

Nope could not do that at all!!
I wish there was a program where you could scan a pattern and they would number it for you!!
How sweet would that be?!

So I did some free piecing.

I have been trying my hand at raw edge applique.

I have never appliqued before but I like the freedom of putting pieces where and how I want.

I adore paper piecing and someday I will figure out how to turn my drawings into a pattern.

Well it is back to school tomorrow for everyone, I love having everyone home, so it will be back to reality! But the good news is I will get to have my grandbabies for a few hours in the weeks ahead.

Christmas Quilts I can now show you!!

Well, we did it!! Made it through the Holidays and now onto a new exciting year! I sure hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday. I know I did! After a few days of rest, we got the Christmas decorations and the tree down.
The house looks so bare but soooo clean!!

I would finally like to share with you the quilts I made for family members.

First, my middle daughter. She got married a year and a half ago. As part of the reception, I made yellow and pink napkins.

The few that were not used I scooped from the tables!

I had some left at home and had bought extra yardage with this in mind...

I wanted to have it done for their one year anniversary but was only a few months late!

Next Little M.

I have been showing you her pink wonky stars but this is the finished quilt.
Now hanging over the back of her crib.

Little T

His Dr Seuss. So bright and fun! He asked for red yarn for the ties, I made them extra long so he could "feel" them as he falls asleep. The back is the softest minky I have ever felt. It is also in fun bright colors.

All in all, the quilts were a success!

Now I am thinking next year!

Really it is never too early to start!!

A fairly new tradition has begun in our family. Thanks to one of my son-in-laws we have discovered the wonderful taste of Zabar's, Babka, and Rugelach!!He introduced us to these amazing tastes a few years ago.

Hence a tradition was born!!

We live in Illinois and Zabar's is in New York (thank Heavens or I would weigh a ton).

So, Once a year around the Holiday's I order Babka and Rugelach for everyone!!

Chocolate, because as said on the Seinfeld show "Cinnamon is the inferior Babka".( Not true also yummy). This year I also got the good old black and white cookie, yes, also delicious!

So, time for me to go as my coffee is getting cold!

Yes, That is what I have be doing all weekend;"binding" my own business!!

Hmmm, binding, not my favorite part of the quilt making process, but this weekend,

I bond four, count them four quilts!!

BUT...

I can show you the flimsy I also finished.

The Dr. Seuss quilt for Little T.

I used the pattern Happy Hour.

Here is interesting thing, this little guy loves quilts with fuzzies on them. That is a quilt that has been tied. So, this will be tied with a super soft backing to keep him all snuggled up this winter.

We also had our family portrait taken. No rain, warm, but very windy!

I sure hope you had a wonderful weekend too!!

I sooooo need to start to Christmas shop and make my cookie baking list!!

I am slightly obsessed with the Kei Kerchief Girls... Just a little OCD about them!! Dear sweet Ayumi from The Pink Penguin had three prints. I now have pink, brown, black.

All I need is a 5 to 10 inch piece of the other colors , I do not even care if it is square.

If you have any of the other colors....How about a trade?

We are just like everyone else!

Really!!

We so enjoy each others company. In fact once a month we all get together for dinner. This month was my turn to make the main dish.

So I donned my apron and got right to work!

Mmmm, spaghetti, see, normal, just like yours!!

I was able to bring it nice and hot in my casserole carrier!

I also brought the aunts a treat, they need to move into some other craft besides knitting!! This cute little basket filled with Presencia Perle Finca should do the trick!

The weather here in Illinois has just been beautiful. I love "Indian Summer"! So, we had the whole family over and my husband made a fire and we enjoyed S'mores!!

Speaking of Scrabble, I NEVER go on Facebook but a friend challenged me to a game of Scrabble on Facebook. I am having a blast! No idea about the rest of Facebook but love this game.

Time to put up Halloween and Fall decorations.

Here are a few of my quilted projects.

This is a counted cross stitch hanging, that I made at least 20+ years ago, she is old and wrinkled, just like me!!

A Fall Table-runner I leave on my kitchen table all October and November.

Leaves and pumpkins, raw edged, and just tacked together for another table-topper.

My favorite, Charlie Brown, Oh how I adore Peanuts. Warm, happy memories from my childhood.

I can't!!

It is raining and dark outside so I cannot take a picture.

I have finished Little M's quilt top, border and all!!

I have decided to stitch a heart in the blank squares.

These are the threads I have auditioned.

First you will see white on the right side (a little of the making is showing through, that would wash out).

Then on the left you will see light pink, then dark pink.

I think I know which one I should use but...

No laughing!!

Anyone and I mean anyone who know me, knows my love of pink. As I was making the stars for my granddaughter's quilt, I started to accumulate pink scraps.

I have always wanted to have a lamp with a plain glass stem so I could add fabric scraps to the inside.

I have yet to find such a lamp

BUT

as my garbage can started to fill with yummy pink scraps,I found the next best thing to a lamp!

I had a beautiful glass container. It is now filled with happiness!!

This will be by my sewing machine as it just brings me joy!

Next, rows!

It is so hard when your mind is young and your body is not!!! I worked on the stars all day Saturday and now I have such shoulder pain that I have to stop quilting for a week or so!!

This is soooo frustrating!!

I want to quilt.

But nooooooo, I have to use Icey Hot Patches and rest!!

Not a happy camper.

The good news, great TV tonight!!!

I cannot wait!!

Bringing It Home

I love block swaps. In the past years I have hosted some and they were so much fun and very successful.

I so want to host another!!

NOW...

Not until the new year.

When the Holidays are over and we can get down to some serious sewing!!

BUT...

I would love your input.

Ideas... When I have about 5 ideas, I will put up a poll and see what everyone thinks!

Keep in mind...

I would like to use modern fabrics. (to me this means new lines we love within the last year or two)

100% cotton, quilt shop quality.

How many blocks to exchange?

How many in a group?

Or one large group?

Themed such as Houses?

Tradition such as the nine patch with modern fabrics?

Weekend Sewing.....

I did some sewing this weekend!!! I worked on some wonky stars for Little M.

Eight done...

And quite a few cut and ready to sew.

We also went apple picking. Soooo much fun. Fresh apples, warm donuts and cold cider!! Yummy!

I finished my first block for my Winter Wonderland quilt. Not sure if I mentioned this before but when I pick my daughter up from school I like to arrive early to get a "good" parking spot. That leaves me with some time. Time to enjoy the quiet, feel the breeze with my car windows open and work on my embroidery.

Hey, I like redwork!! You never have to make a decision about what color to use! LOL!!

There has been a temporary interruption of my Pink Lemonade Quilt.

I just NEED to make Little Miss a pink quilt!

I mean really what is a grandmother to do??!!

I have decided on the wonky star. It will be 5 X 5 blocks. 9 inches finished.
Not too big and not too small.

SO...

I need 25 different pinks!

Not a problem in this house, nope none at all!

A New Nine Patch

First thank you to everyone who read my post on Sew We Quilt! Such a pleasure to have you here with me today. As I told you The Nine Patch is my favorite block. After writing the post and seeing all the inspiration on flickr I just could not wait to start another quilt.

So, a new quilt is in the makes...

I however in my true form have change the colors to pink!

I have nevered named a quilt in all the 25+ years of quilting until today.

This quilt will from now on not be known as my nine patch, or that pink quilt but forever will be called...

PINK LEMONADE!

Here is a preview of the fabrics I will be using. Kona White as my background fabric, and several miscellaneous pink prints. Some from my stash and some new. Yes, you do see an Amerika Samoa print from Barb, some Henna Garden, a VIP print from Cranston, and some Free Spirit.

Whew that was enough work for one day!!

Picking fabrics is a hard job, but I guess someone has to do it!!

I am making some progress on my $5.00 quilt.

I have ironed all 400+ squares.

Sew them into 2 patches.

I am now working on 4 patches.

None of them are the same size, so instead of trimming 400+ squares I will deal with that when the blocks are much bigger. They then will be trimmed and put together for the top. This is such a fun project as there are "no rules". You see it will be a picnic quilt and those to me are "no-rule" quilts!

I love Back to School night!!

You get to meet all the teachers that will be a major influence on your child's life.

A New PC!!!

Yes I have a new PC!!

So, this weekend there was

no sewing

no blogging

no cooking ( Oh, wait, I never do that anyway)!

But there was computer time!!

It set up like a breeze, well that is until the internet part arrived. Two hours on the phone with my brother in Texas and she was purring like a kitten ( Thanks Joe xox)!!!!

I went all out with this baby! I bought a 24 inch monitor! Talk about large, this is how I felt!

It was just too large for me! So back it went and I am now happily using an 18.5 inch monitor!!

This is the first monitor in many years where I can use it as intended. I do not have to change the screen resolution. That means I can see whole pages without having to scroll right to left!

For me, this is a super biggie!!

Did you know that my blog has blue polka dots on the sides?

I never saw that!!!

I think I have everything I need to start working on my Civil War Blocks. I plan on doing the piecing by hand.

So I have set up a little sewing station.

Yes, right smack dab in front of the TV!!

I’m no fool (contrary to the rumors).

Here is my tray setup….

My iron, PINK!! And it works!

Soft batting as an ironing board.

Thread, needles, pins…

And yes two items I would be lost without.

These scissors and thimble were my great-grandmothers.

I would be lost without these precious items.

The thimble has medical tape on it for a sure grip and it has been “smashed” into an oval to fit my finger.

So, I think I am all set!! Now what to watch?
Ahhhh, yes
Project Runway!!!!

I hope to be able to show you a few completed blocks tomorrow.

It is a little quiet in the sewing room. I am just about done with all the bees I am in; just one more month. Looked at some UFO’s and decided to keep them just that, UFO’s!!

I did work on a bee block with a color I have never used before...

I have been working on my Sarah Jane stitchery. This is such a fun pattern.

Chloe and I were having fun today, she kept on peeking as I was trying to take some pictures. She is such a sweet little one.

Oh I love her so!!!!

I am also working on a Christmas gift, but I cannot show you just yet!!

Yes sadly it is true my body is telling me something and I have closed my ears for some time now.

The constant yelling is really starting to bother me!
